An architect friend of mine showed me some fantastic photos he took of a beach in Duxbury at sunrise. He gave me permission to paint it. It’s very difficult to get the same atmospheric effect in sky with color as it is in real life. Very thin transparent layers is key. Not sure I got it right, but I learned a lot. Size: medium. SOLD.

This was painted on a snowy day last winter during a class with Caleb Stone at Concord Art Association. On such days, Caleb would bring in multiple copies of a photograph he took. We were all relieved, I think, that he didn’t lead us outdoors for plein-air painting in the snow! Size: small. Price: $275 including frame.
